Mike Whitticar, Intellectual Property Lawyer
Mike Whitticar, the founder of NOVA IP Law, has over 31 years of experience in intellectual property and business litigation in state and federal courts throughout Virginia and the U.S.
A Virginia native, Mr. Whitticar graduated from Stanford University and the University of Virginia School of Law. Mr. Whitticar has represented or advised some of the world’s largest and most successful businesses, including General Electric, Exxon/Mobil, Miller Brewing Company and Canon.
He also is experienced in representing individuals, as well as small and medium-sized businesses in Northern Virginia.
Mr. Whitticar handles patent litigation and licensing matters not directly involving the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Jonathan Brown is a USPTO registered Patent Attorney who handles patent application and drafting, as well as representing clients before the USPTO.
Jonathan Brown, Patent Counsel
Jonathan Brown is a United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registered patent attorney who handles patent applications, patent prosecution, and patentability search analysis for NOVA IP Law and its clients. Mr. Brown is a United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) registered patent attorney. He served as a Patent Examiner with the USPTO, where he examined applications in chemical, electro-chemical and mechanical technologies.
He has drafted and prosecuted patents in multiple areas, including chemical, mechanical, pharmaceutical, medical devices, software and computer systems, AI-based systems, mining, and petroleum refining. He has also worked on patent, trademark, copyright and other general litigation, and has done intellectual property work for clients such as Bayer, A.G., Merck, Boston Scientific, Verizon, General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, Monsanto, and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
Jonathan is admitted to practice before the PTO, and is a member of the District of Columbia bar, the American Intellectual Property Association, and other professional organizations. He received his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law (with honors) and served on the Journal of Intellectual Property Law.
